Time for the traditional monthly-ish update. It makes me feel bad to even have to say that.
Things are coming along slowly. That is, they’re not coming along at all because study and jobseeking are taking over my life.
I could start this now if I took all of my old reviews from my old site and threw them in here. They don’t claim ownership so I’d certainly have the right to do so if I wanted to. Thing is, I don’t want to. I was always a bit restricted in terms of what I could review, since it was really a mainstream (mostly pop and R&B) interest site. Also, there were restrictions on content – no ‘colourful’ language allowed under any circumstances and everything I wrote got heavily edited. Sometimes I’d agree with the editing (I have a tendency to go on a bit sometimes) but often I was a bit confused by it. Above all else, though, I just have a habit of looking back on stuff I’ve written in the past and declaring it all absolute shit.
So, the plan: I guess what I want to do is build up a worthwhile collection of recent-ish material – it’s been a long time since I could afford to buy as much music as I’d like, so I’ve had to be very selective – and then take a bit of time to listen to it thoroughly and write about it. What’s more likely is that I’ll start with the most recent album I bought, which was released this week, and then take a few other random older albums from my iTunes library and just review them instead of waiting to afford more recent stuff. (Before anyone says something implying that I should just download it for free: no. I’m not getting into the debate, I’d just rather not do it.)
In conclusion: the story remains the same. I haven’t forgotten about this, I just have other stuff on right now but would like to get something started as soon as I can.

I suppose it’s about time I got back around to this, isn’t it?
I’ve been hella busy with uni work and life in general, so I haven’t had a chance to do anything. I’ve got a bit of work to do between now and about the middle of January, so I probably won’t think about it too much until then. If I do, it’ll most likely be behind the scenes – writing reviews ready to post on launch, etc.
But of course, I haven’t forgotten about this. I’d really like to get it launched but y’know how life intervenes.

This is about the time when I have to confess that I’m bloody useless. I know I already did that, but it bears repeating.
To be fair, I’ve been ill ever since that last entry, so I’ve got a vague excuse. I’ve got a completely empty day and a half ahead of me, then a drunken evening and hangover Sunday, so maybe I’ll get something done. Or maybe I’ll just spend most of that time in bed like I normally do.
*shrug*

Yeah. Not much more I can say about that. I’ve been really crap lately, just couldn’t be bothered with writing anything. It’s been that sort of week. Luckily, I have a friend who’s interested in helping out and writing reviews, so that might spur me on to get stuff done.
Next week, maybe.

Everything is just about ready with the site. Now all I have to do is write something to put on it.
No reason why it should take longer than the next 24 hours or so, unless I get severely distracted by some kind of shiny object.
EDIT: Yyyyeah. Forgot about the neuroscience presentation I have to write. And the article I’ve got to read. Yup, they’re gonna be weekly. Someone remind me why I’m doing this degree? Also, there was no shiny object, just a friend who invited me out for dinner, which I obviously couldn’t refuse.

How do. It’s been a while.
I’m having a bit of a change around here. Bit pointless having the site sitting here unused, so I’m going to use it for something. Specifically, reviews. I like writing reviews but haven’t had the impetus for a while now. It’s something I need to get back into.
In the past my reviews were always published on a site that you probably won’t have heard of unless you knew me from there in the first place, but I’ve recently parted ways with them (albeit on good terms) so publishing them myself is the way forward. On the down side, it’ll be a shame to lose that audience and the editor who sometimes cuts things out to make me look like less of a rambling fuckwit. However, on the plus side… it’ll be nice to have less censorship and restrictions on content – writing for an all-ages music site with the main focus on current chart music and general pop/R&B is good practice, but doesn’t really give me much scope to use slightly more descriptive language or cover a lot of the things I’m interested in: other genres of music (which, to be fair, I did cover, but nobody cared), books, video games, etc.
So… yeah. That’s what I’m gonna be doing. Hopefully it’ll get going soon. I’ll probably do a bit of a redesign to go along with the new direction, so look out for that I guess.
